Some of you may not know this, but we were selected by BATHtastic on the DIY network to have our bathroom redone!
A few months ago, Heather was on craigslist and discovered an ad from BATHtastic! asking for home owners who may be interested in a bathroom remodel. She submitted photos of our bathroom and sent along an email with the reasons why we should be selected. She got a response back from one of their associate producers within a week. We were interviewed and another week or so later we were notified they wanted to shoot our bathroom.
I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of a camera crew invading our house but as Heather’s excitement grew so did mine.
The first day of the Bathroom shoot is done. The first day was another interview shoot and the goal was to shoot the demolition of the bathroom by the end of the day. The Bathtastic team was here about 10 hours and we demolished the whole bathroom! Heather got to take first swing and she did a bang up job on camera. I helped with the removal of the cast-iron tub and tile flooring. The host, Matt Muenster, is a genuine, honest-to-goodness trooper. I had originally thought he was maybe brought in to make a cut or two, swing the hammer on camera and leave. Not so. He really works on the whole show. He digs in and swings a mean hammer.
The house is covered in dust! But that’s alright. We’ll have that cleaned up soon. The air filtration system ran all night last night–hopefully sucking some of that dust out of the air.
The entire crew was fantastic. They were fun and witty–a diverse group of personalities that meshed well. We are looking forward to seeing them again. Our next shoot date isn’t for a couple of weeks — we’ve got some prep work that needs to be done before they can come back. Here’s to a new bathroom–something Heather has wanted for a LONG time.
Sounds like a lot of fun. Wish is was our bathroom:) But happy that Heather is getting what she has wanted for a long time.
How long does the whole process take? And are you going to have a viewing party for your episode?! 🙂
The filming will be done at the end of March (and so will the bathroom.) But the episode probably won’t air for 3-6 months after that.
I think this whole thing is WAY cool. But what do they do in the meantime between shoots? Shovel your driveway? 😉
